Counseling
TIS Counselor
Hello parents and families!
I am so excited to be part of the school counseling team! I am Veronica Zamora Dimas and with the help of our SEL Paraprofessional Jizelle Barajas, we will be working with our wonderful students at Tieton Elementary School and Marcus Whitman Cowiche Elementary School!
School-Wide Programs
Students participate in weekly lessons using the Second Step Curriculum on topics such as calming down techniques, problem solving, and how to address bullying.
We also look into the topics of academic, career and social/emotional development.
1. Academic Development
• Lessons build executive functioning, self-regulation, and skills for learning.
• Students learn how to manage emotions and apply problem-solving to academic tasks.
2. Career Development
• Older students develop interpersonal skills like empathy, communication, and teamwork.
• Lessons include goal setting and decision-making, which are essential for workplace success.
3. Social/Emotional Development
• Every lesson promotes social-emotional growth through empathy, emotion management, and problem-solving.
• Units like Bullying Prevention and Child Protection reinforce these skills with real-world applications.
Small Groups
TES/MWC students also participate in small groups sessions which help them build the skills they need to make and keep friends. Understand how to regulate their emotions and skills to navigate various social-emotional situations.
